Zoë Mc Pherson is a multimedia artist, producer, sound designer, performer and DJ.
Half northern Irish, half french, she was born in London, raised in rural south of France, lived in Brussels and is now living and working in Berlin.
The start of 2020 sees her launch hybrid label SFX alongside long time collaborator and interdisciplinary artist Alessandra Leone.
The first installement on their fresh imprint is Zoë Mc Pherson’s
second album States of Fugue [SF02] out on February 20th 2020.
Her first full length audiovisual album String Figures [SF01], released in 2018 via SVS records received critical acclaim from the press and public and won the prices of “Best music video” at the Berlin independent film festival & “Best experimental video” at Berlin music video awards, received a “Vimeo Staff pick”, screened at numerous film festivals and art spaces such as the Australian Center for moving image in Melbourne, Australia.
As a composer, Zoë Mc Pherson won the award of best electronic music artist at Belgian Grammy awards equivalent ‘Octaves de la musique’.
She has worked on scoring choreography and dance performance in Belgium Leuven and Germany Hamburg at Kraftwerk Bille, on “Futurecore 2000” which will perform again in Berlin and Leipzig this spring 2020.
She produced an EP in collaboration with Rupert Clervaux (Whities, Berceuse Heroique) out on BAKK last December 2019. She produced and released two remixes for Rabih Beaini’s Morphine records and Kranky records, respectively for 'Contagious’ project and Christina Vantzou. And has recorded music with a range of musicians and vocalists such as Elvin Brandhi, Greetje Bijma, Sam Comerford, Falk Schrauwen, Hester Bolle, etc.
She released music on Morphine, SFX, SVS records, BAKK, Oramics & Kashev Tapes, F:P, Low Income Squad, etc.
She has made mixes for Red light radio, NTS radio, Rinse fm, The Word, Kiosk radio, Cashmere radio etc. and is now a resident at Bristol’s Noods radio.
Zoë has toured in France, Germany, UK, Iceland, Russia, Kazakhstan, Slovenia, Hungary, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, USA, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Tunisia, Portugal, Switzerland, Estonia, Poland and Turkey.
And has notably played at De School, Amsterdam; Room4Resistance - Traumabarundkino, Berlin; Concrete, Paris; Boiler Room, Berlin; ZVUK, Almaty; Mutabor, Moscow; Vooruit, Ghent; Beursschouwburg, Brussels; H0L0, NYC; Nottingham Contemporary; Freerotation festival, Wales; Mengi, Reykjavik, etc.
With the launch of SFX and a clutch of multimedia collaborations alongside, as well as performing live sets, AV shows, light shows, DJsets, curating events, recording mixes and scoring music, 2020 witnesses Zoë evolve in all directions.
